Robyn Rihanna Fenty



A lot of people know Rihanna as a famous musician, but a lot of people aren’t able to recognize the name Robyn Rihanna Fenty, Rihanna’s full name. Her name inspired her to create a makeup line called Fenty Beauty.


Fenty Beauty was founded on September 8th, 2017 and Rihanna’s goals with this line are to make sure a wide variety of skin tones and shades are displayed in mainstream media, especially darker skin tones for people of color. Fenty Beauty is the first makeup brand to have good quality concealers and foundations that cater to darker skin tones. In total, the line has 50 concealer and foundation shades, sold in 17 different countries, with about 1,620 stores open. Even if there isn’t a store available you can order their products online, anywhere in the world. What sets Fenty Beauty apart is that most brands don’t release a variety of shades at once, but Fenty Beauty did.


Switching from Music to Makeup


Rihanna once said, “Makeup is there for you to have fun with. It should never feel like pressure. It should never feel like a uniform. Feel free to take chances, and take risks, and dare to do something new or different.” Makeup has been Rihanna’s way of expressing herself ever since she was a little girl playing with her mom’s lipstick and felt it was important to share this form of self expression by filling the gap in the beauty industry in terms of darker shades and undertones.


The Influence of Fenty Beauty


Rihanna has taught people of color to love their skin tone by creating a space where they feel represented. After seeing the success and garnering over 100 million dollars in revenue within one year, other brands started to frantically try and surpass it, making not only 50 different shades, but up to a 100. However, none of these brands are talked about as much as the shades in Fenty Beauty, solely because the formula of these products only works well on people of color. These 100 shades were not designed to reach out to people of color but to give their original line more success, which was the opposite of Rihanna’s way of thinking, resulting in her success.


After almost being in the business for 5 years, Fenty Beauty continues to keep the buzz alive as all of their products cater to everyone, no matter what shade, or undertone you are, Rihanna strives to be the change everyone wishes to see.
